The Highlands-Cashiers Plateau is well known for its stunning natural beauty – its “far as the eye can see” vistas, its larger than life waterfalls, its rolling sea of wildflowers lining the valley floor. In a show of celebration of nature’s beauty, the Highlands, NC community prepares to kick off its 11th Annual Mountains in Bloom Garden Festival. Nature lovers throughout the Southeast and beyond will soon descend upon the Plateau for a weekend they won’t soon forget!

The Festival kicks off with a series of lectures, the first of which – “Flower Remedies: Take Two Roses and Call Me In the Morning” – will be hosted at The Bascom and presented by Margie Shambaugh at 5:30 p.m. on July 7. Subsequent lectures will be held on July 9 and include the professional advice of famed interior designer, Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill and landscape designer/garden restorer, Chip Callaway. This exceptional afternoon – hosted at The Martin-Lipscomb Performing Arts Center – is broken into two sessions (8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.), and includes a book signing and a proper English tea at Café Royal.

The Flower Show – held at Highlands Civic Center on July 10 and 11 – showcases three divisions: Horticulture (garden flowers, container plants & native specimens), Artistic (floral arrangements, floral design interpretations of Bascom artwork, children’s floral arrangements) and – NEW this year – Photography (flowers of all kinds and Western North Carolina scenery). The theme of this year’s show is “Mountain Moments” and will include two special exhibits, The Art of Ikebana and Art Projects from The Bascom’s Children’s Program. The Flower Show begins July 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and wraps up July 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fun doesn’t have to end there! Also hosted at the Highlands Civic Center on July 10 and 11 in the Gymnasium is the much anticipated Home and Garden Shop. Featured for the first time, this exciting attraction is expected to be the highlight of the weekend. Come shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. among the vendors and artists presenting live plants, flowers and specialty items for the home and garden, including garden art, birdbaths, pottery, fountains, garden furniture and so much more.

On July 10 and 11, The Garden Tour commences with a leisurely shuttle ride from The Highlands Civic Center. The Tour includes the majestic gardens and beautiful interiors of some of the homes in Highlands Falls Country Club, as well as the gardens of an English country estate and a 1800’s historic home. Lunch will be provided at the Highlands Falls Clubhouse, overlooking the 17th hole and lake. The Festival also includes a Patron’s Party on July 10 at 6:30 p.m. hosted by Paula and Barry Jones – the owners of The Summerhouse – at their lovely Frog Pond Farm. This extraordinary evening will include a meander through the gardens, cocktails by the lake, and the music of Jim Gibson and his strolling musicians as guests dine under a blanket of stars.

For more information, to buy tickets or to learn the details regarding sponsorship of this very special event, visit www.mountainsinbloom.com or call The Bascom at 828.526.4949. Pretty as a Picture – Staging Your Home’s Interior for Resale

Posted by Jochen | Posted in Real Estate News | Posted on Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Last month, Silver Creek Real Estate Group uploaded a helpful blog article titled “May Flowers Bring June Buyers – Increasing the Curb Appeal of Your Home”, which included tips for enhancing the exterior of the home to attract potential buyers. So you’ve taken our advice and planted, freshened and beautified in an effort to get the buyer from their realtor’s car to your front door – now what? Making certain the interior of your home is “pretty as a picture” and staged properly to aid in the fastest possible sale is of equal importance. It’s a classic Carolina fly-fishing “you’ve hooked ‘em, now reel ‘em in” scenario. We’ve created a list of some simple, inexpensive ways to stage the interior of your home so that visitors can easily envision their family living there and making their own memories for years to come.

1) Detach: As difficult as it may be, you really need to create an emotional separation from the home.  In doing so, it will make it much easier to follow steps 2-5. No matter the reason, you’ve made the choice to sell your home – it’s time to cut the cord and focus on making your home “buyer ready”.

2) De-clutter: Go room to room and begin the task of removing the non-essential items. You’re going to have to pack it all up in the end anyway, so why not begin with the small stuff? Family heirlooms and photographs may mean the world to you, but they could serve to distance your potential buyer from your home. How does one visualize themselves living in a space occupied by your bric-a-brac and frames filled with your family’s smiling faces? The same is true for larger furniture pieces that may block the flow of traffic through your home. Simplify, and then store the rest. Pay particular attention to the kitchen – the heart of the home. Try to remove clutter from all the countertops – gives the impression of a larger room and a cleaner kitchen.

3) Get organized: Like it or not, truly interested buyers will open all the drawers, cabinets and closets in your home. The good news is, they are trying to imagine their own items fitting in these spaces. The bad news is, the best way to help them do that is to really work on your organizational skills. Spend a day or two going room-to-room, opening doors to closets and drawers in cabinets – then work on making them look as neat and orderly as possible.

4) Make it clean and fresh: Make certain your home is ALWAYS ready for a showing – dust, vacuum, and freshen as often as you can. Open those blinds or curtains and let the sun shine in. Light candles for added ambience and aromatherapy (only when you know you’ll be away for a short time). Replace silk floral arrangements with fresh flowers – adds natural beauty and a wonderful aroma. Open windows to allow the breeze, sounds and scents of the outdoors to flow indoors. During the cooler months, consider creating visual and physical warmth by lighting a fire in the fireplace (again, only when you know you’ll be away for a short time).

5) Do your homework: Buy a stack of the latest home décor magazines and pair it with a little online research – get up-to-date on the latest trends on the market, and attempt to recreate them in rooms throughout your home. If trendy is just not your thing, you can never miss with classic traditional décor. You may have to invest in a few cans of neutral wall paint and some throw pillows for added color. For instance, consider placing accents of black in every room – framed art, lampshades, wrought iron pieces, etc. Black adds an air of sophistication. When trying to make a small room appear larger, minimizing the clutter is essential – but mirrors are a great way to create the optical illusion of more space. You’ll find lots of great tips just like these by surfing the web or leafing through the pages of a magazine.

When all is said and done, the rooms in your home should appear like something out of a magazine – quite literally “pretty as a picture”. Following the simple steps outlined above and partnering with the talented team at Silver Creek Real Estate Group are your best bets in finding the ideal buyer for your home. Silver Creek Real Estate Group 2009 Marketing and Ad Campaign

In our on-going quest to provide the “crème de la crème” in service to our clients and continue to set ourselves apart from the fray in the Western North Carolina real estate market, Silver Creek Real Estate Group has launched an aggressive marketing and ad campaign for 2009. While many businesses and real estate agencies are making the choice to save their advertising dollars and cut back on marketing expenses, we forge ahead with the knowledge that advertising brings results. As a full-service brokerage firm, we believe in delivering positive results to each and every one of our clients in as timely a manner as possible. Therefore, our 2009 marketing and advertising campaign is based on a tactical three-pronged approach: 1) print advertising, 2) online marketing, and 3) customized strategies.

Perhaps the most visible, albeit most expensive, approach to attracting buyers to the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau is our print advertising campaign. This campaign not only markets Silver Creek’s distinctive image and belief in “Building Relationships. Delivering Dreams.” – it promotes the natural beauty of the region and the extraordinary properties that lie within. We realize we’re not just selling homes and home sites, we’re selling breathtaking views and the possibility of a lifetime of memories in our very special little corner of the world. In order to help us spread the word about the Plateau and promote our clients’ properties both on and off the mountain, we have partnered with several local and regional upscale publications. These publications include Dupont Registry, Real Estate Magazine, WNC Magazine, Florida Estates Magazine, Gold Coast Magazine, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine and Charleston Magazine. We are creating quite a buzz, and are already seeing an incredible return on our investment.

Secondly, we pay special attention to our online marketing. We are continually making enhancements to our website www.ncliving.com for optimal marketing effect and “user friendliness”, and we proudly debuted our Silver Creek blog last year. Our website not only showcases listings along the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau - but also provides our visitors with detailed descriptions of the communities in the area, our NEW Visitors Guide and so much more. Silver Creek’s blog serves a broad spectrum of areas – sales recaps, calendar of events, latest local news and community/property focuses. We also increase our online footprint through our partners’ websites, i.e. The Dupont Registry.

Lastly, Silver Creek develops a targeted marketing strategy for each and every one of our clients. A member of our talented team of experienced brokers is prepared to guide our clients from the initial meeting to the closing table, while offering earnest advice and top-notch customer service every step along the way. We listen to our clients’ wants and needs, and carefully customize a plan to achieve them. Each of our brokers offers a wealth of experience in the real estate industry and a long history of proven results. Because our brokers live and work in the area – we each have strong ties to the community, as well as unparalleled local market knowledge. Our clients are never just an MLS number to us. We believe in building relationships with the people we serve, a revolutionary concept for those continuing to languish amongst hundreds of listings.

At Silver Creek Real Estate Group, we’re willing to go the extra mile to attract buyers to our exclusive properties along The Highlands-Cashiers Plateau. We invite you to list your property with Silver Creek Real Estate Group TODAY! For more information on how to get started, please call us at (828) 743-1999, email us at info@ncliving.com or drop by our offices conveniently located near the Crossroads at The Shoppes at CreekSide. We look forward to meeting you and learning how best we can serve you!

With a history dating back to 1895, Lonesome Valley has served as a bastion to “the great outdoors” ever since Pittsburg entrepreneur and visionary E.H. Jennings first acquired 35,000 acres near the sleepy village of Cashiers. While Mr. Jennings is responsible for developing one of Western North Carolina’s most popular resort destinations, he chose to preserve Lonesome Valley as a special place to share with his friends and family. Gracefully spanning the valley floor of the largest box canyon east of the Rockies, Lonesome Valley is said by many to be the place where Heaven and Earth meet. For more than a century, the Jennings family has continued to take great care to maintain the history and natural beauty of this unique mountain treasure.

Carefully developed in accordance with the Jennings family’s wishes, amenities and homes within this stunning community complement the natural beauty of the area. Lonesome Valley has quickly become one of Cashiers’ most sought after developments. Cottage and home designs pay homage to the Southern Appalachian farmhouses of a bygone era. Dining within the community highlights Southern cuisine made with fresh produce grown in the Valley. The Canyon Kitchen is currently open for the season on Thursdays through Sundays, and features the culinary talents of Chef John Fleer (formerly of the renowned Blackberry Farm in Tennessee). The Canyon Kitchen is located inside Jennings Barn at the heart of the Lonesome Valley community, and reservations are recommended.
