Silver Creek Spotlight: Dargan Landscape Architects
In Silver Creek’s continuing effort to shine a light on the wide variety of special businesses and organizations that play a role in making the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau such an extraordinary place to call home, we’d like to take this opportunity to introduce our readers to Dargan Landscape Architects. This Atlanta, GA-based company was established in 1973 and has spent the past three decades building a strong following nationwide with their opulent designs and brilliant landscapes. Featured in countless books and such well-known publications as Southern Accents and Better Homes & Gardens, Dargan’s designs have also been repeatedly recognized by the Mecca of home and garden aficionados – HGTV. At the helm of Dargan Landscape Architects – Hugh Dargan, ASLA and Mary Palmer Dargan, ASLA have recently released their beautiful, fully-illustrated book “Timeless Landscape Design: The Four-Part Master Plan”. The book includes photographs of historic gardens that have inspired the talented duo, before- and after-photos of the authors’ award-winning work, and a walk through the garden of ideas – the development of a four-part master plan and the integration of art elements into the design for a timeless result, one that “pleases the eye, nourishes the soul and makes living easier.” The Dargan’s book is available in hardcover and can be purchased online at www.dargan.com.
Renowned in the Carolinas for their recreations of 18th and 19th century English gardens in the historic city of Charleston (and Mary Palmer’s stint as garden editor of Charleston Magazine), Hugh and Mary Palmer are also beloved seasonal members of the Cashiers community. Mary Palmer currently sits on the Board of Cashier’s Village Green, and is an active member of the Cashiers Village Council. This summer, the Dargans will take part in the following events on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau:
