Just a scenic three-hour drive north from the hustle and bustle of metro Atlanta’s busy streets, the historic resort mountain village of Cashiers, North Carolina offers its Southern city neighbors an abundance of natural splendor at every turn, a welcome & leisurely pace, delightfully mild climates, and a wealth of world-class amenities, shops & restaurants. What many residents from other nearby metropolises of Knoxville, Charlotte, and Greenville may not realize is that Cashiers has been a mecca for some of the Southeast’s leading interior designers for more than a decade. As this sleepy village prepares to host its 13th Annual Cashiers Designer Showhouse, the excitement is quickly mounting!
Last year’s Designer Showhouse bore witness to record numbers in terms of attendance and fund-raising. Proceeds from the Designer Showhouse benefit the Cashiers Historical Society, including the care and maintenance of the historic Zachary-Tolbert House and grounds. Last year’s proceeds were so plentiful that the Society was able to turn around and donate a $28,000 grant to the Cashiers Valley Community Council. This year’s numbers are expected to be even higher. With a theme of “Designed with a View”, the 2010 Designer Showhouse is located at Whisper Fade in Cashiers’ prestigious golf community of Wade Hampton. In a neighborhood boasting breathtaking vistas of the beautiful and highly touted Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole championship golf course and sweeping panoramas of the Blue Ridge Mountains, it’s no wonder why the view was the subject for this year’s theme.
With corporate sponsors such as Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, Mountainworks Custom Home Design, Hennessy Automobile Companies, and Macon Bank among others – the 2010 Cashiers Designer Showhouse promises to be bigger and better than ever. Showcasing their talents in the individual rooms of the Cashiers Designer Showhouse are local designers Eddie Alvarez and George Oliver of A Country Home, Cheryl Benitez and Audrey Wood of Mountain House, Shannon Berrey of Shannon Berrey Designs, Nora Butler of Nora & Co., Dianne Estes of D’Estes Antiques, Debra Green of English-Green Interiors, Linda Hall of Vivace & Vivace Women, Francie Hargrove of Francie Hargrove Interior Design, Sandy Linebaugh of Fiddlehead Designs, Edwin Lusk and David Paterson of Fletcher & Lee, Lynn Monday of Monday’s House of Design, Kirk Moore & Don Fry of Oakleaf Flower & Garden, Ann Sherrill of Rusticks, and Matthew Ward of Into the Woods Interiors. Visiting designers from nearby Atlanta and Birmingham are Carole Weaks of C. Weaks Interiors, William Peace of Peace Design, Suzanne Kasler of Suzanne Kasler Interiors, Bob Brown of Robert Brown Interior Design, and Majorie Johnston and Wendy Barze of Marjorie Johnston & Co. Atlanta Designer, Suzanne Kasler was named among Elle Décor’s Top 25 Designers this year, and she will be featured during a Talk, Lunch & Book Signing at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley on Saturday, August 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tickets to tour the rooms of this exquisitely designed luxury mountain estate are just $25 per person and can be purchased at the Showhouse. If you wish to order your tickets in advance, please call 828.743.7710. The hours of the Showhouse are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event kicks off with a Patrons Party & Auction on the evening of Friday, August 20 at the Wade Hampton Golf Clubhouse, which will feature the culinary artistry of Wade Hampton Chef Doug Sampey and live entertainment from Anita Brown and her Band. Throughout the Showhouse Event, the Cashiers Historical Society Museum in the Zachary-Tolbert House & Grounds will be open daily for tours, and the venues surrounding the Showhouse will include the Showhouse Shops and Merchants Tent. A delicious lunch from Café 107 will be served daily at the Dowden Pavilion. Shuttles to the Cashiers Designer Showhouse will leave regularly from the parking lot of the Cashiers United Methodist Church.
