Start a New Tradition with Your Family in the Beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina

Are your family’s holiday traditions as stale as last year’s Christmas cookies? Do you long for a holiday that is reminiscent of a classic Norman Rockwell painting? It’s no secret why the historic resort village of Cashiers and the town of Highlands in North Carolina have drawn families here for close to two hundred years. Between the crisp mountain air, fantastic views of nature’s splendor, wonderfully peaceful atmosphere and cornucopia of fun family-friendly activities and venues,  every year an entirely new collection of families make the choice to build new traditions together and make their home (or second home) on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau. With a wide variety of home choices – easy maintenance condominiums overlooking a mystic waterfall, quaint cottages nestled in a grove of towering pines, estate-sized mountain retreats, and more – there’s something to fit every kind of family in Highlands, Cashiers and the neighboring towns of Glenville, Sapphire and Lake Toxaway.

There is no better time than now – during the holiday season – to start building some truly special family memories in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Aren’t you tired of hauling out the old artificial Christmas tree year after year? Imagine selecting and chopping down your own REAL Christmas tree, and filling your home with the heavenly aroma of fresh mountain pine. Picture yourself roasting marshmallows with your family before a roaring fire in the stunning stacked stone fireplace at the heart of your great room, framed with exposed heavy timber beams and filled with warmth. Allow yourself to dream of a White Christmas that might actually come true. Even if you’re not quite ready to “make the leap” to a permanent home, Western North Carolina is still a wonderful place to visit. From historic inns, to posh resorts, to amazing rental homes – we invite you to come experience the holidays in an entirely new way. Like something from a vintage picture postcard, the villages of Cashiers and Highlands are decorated for the holidays and the shops are filled with unique gifts for everyone on your list. The calendar of events for each community along the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau is jam-packed with fantastic holiday “happenings” to help spread the Christmas cheer and promote that wonderful feeling of community that sets us apart from other resorts.

Once you’ve made the decision to put down roots here, you’ll find something to love about every single season on the mountain. To begin the search for your family’s one-of-a-kind mountain retreat, the talented team at Silver Creek Real Estate Group is ready to help you. What better gift to give your family than an extraordinary legacy home that can be passed down and enjoyed from generation to generation? It will truly be the gift that keeps giving! Contact Silver Creek’s experienced brokers today at 828.743.1999, e-mail us at info@ncliving.com or drop by our offices conveniently located just west of the Cashiers Crossroads in the Shoppes at CreekSide. O Christmas Tree!
Western North Carolina Christmas Tree Farms

One of our favorite sights up here on the mountain (besides our signature, awe-inspiring vistas or the sun setting over one of our many lakes) is the sea of cars heading through the village with beautiful new Christmas trees strapped to their roofs. It is a heart-warming signal to locals in Western North Carolina that the holidays are just around the corner. Just a short and scenic drive up the mountain brings visitors to the town of Glenville and the historic village of Cashiers for their rich bounty of Christmas Tree farms.  Many of these farms will not only assist you in selecting the ideal tree for your family, but they’ll even help you cut it down. Most can also provide you with fresh pine wreaths, garland and swag so your home may be filled with the heavenly scent of a mountain forest in winter. Several feature renowned Carolina Frasier Fir Trees.

Be sure to stop in Cashiers or Highlands to dine in one of our fine restaurants and visit our unique shops for some last minute Christmas shopping!

Western North Carolina Gets a Positive Nod From The Today Show and Travel + Leisure Magazine

During a recent airing of The Today Show – Travel + Leisure Magazine’s International Editor, Mark Orwoll listed Western North Carolina as being one of the best Autumn get-aways in the nation to view the fabulous fall foliage.  “This is a wonderful part of the country to visit for the fall,” suggests Orwoll.  Aside from leaf watching, he recommends such family-friendly fall traditions as apple picking, antiquing, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway or taking a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railway. And the fun doesn’t stop there! Visit the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau and you could go for a leisurely boat ride on one of our many mountain lakes, hike a winding trail through a colorful ancient forest, don a pair of waders and cast your line into a peaceful stream, take in breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys below from the 9th hole of a championship golf course, go on a quest for the most beautiful waterfall – the list goes on and on.  Don’t forget the amazing shops and unique restaurants that line the streets of our historic villages and towns.  There’s no shortage of fun to be had or beauty to be seen.

Begin planning your trip right away!  According to Orwoll, Western North Carolina’s foliage peak season is now through November 3 – depending on the elevation.  To celebrate the start of leaf season, you won’t want to miss The Leaf Festival of Cashiers Valley – Oct. 8-10, 2009.  Click here to learn more about this terrific event.  Silver Creek Real Estate Group invites you to visit our website at www.ncliving.com for more information about the villages and townships that line The Highlands-Cashiers Plateau, as well as the shops, restaurants and accommodations available in the area.  If you have any additional questions, please feel free to call us at 828.743.1999. We look forward to seeing you and your family up on the mountain this fall!

Silver Creek Invites YOU to Join Us for The Leaf Festival of Cashiers Valley This Fall in Western North Carolina - October 8-10, 2009

There is no place on Earth quite like the mountains of North Carolina in the Fall. In the coming weeks – as the sun sets in the West on yet another cool autumn day, the trees will be set ablaze with vibrant color – fiery red, sunny yellow, pumpkin orange and chestnut brown. The air will suddenly seem crisper and cleaner, and the energy will be almost palpable. As locals, we realize that this incredible show lasts only a few precious weeks before the last leaf falls.  Therefore, this year we wish to invite our neighbors from near and far to share in the amazing transformation of our mountain vistas from a rolling sea of green trees to a veritable artist’s palette of the most breathtaking hues imaginable.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., The Village Green’s tree-lined streets will be transformed for the Artisan Festival and Enchanted Village – including the work of local artists, a merchants market, live music, and special children’s section featuring face painting, clowns, and trolley rides. The Leaf Festival will also feature an exciting Tour of Homes – which will include a driving tour of some of our most breathtaking mountain homes. Boat tours of beautiful Lake Glenville’s 1,400 acres of aquatic splendor will also be featured throughout the weekend to provide a “fish-eye’s” view of the changing leaves as they gently fall on the glasslike lake surface.  The weekend will end on a high note with a Concert on the Slopes of Sapphire Valley Resort courtesy of headliner and Grammy Award winner B.J. Thomas.  Thomas has sold more than 70 million albums, earned 2 Platinum and 11 Gold records, and topped the charts 15 times with memorable hits such as Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head, Hooked on a Feeling and I Just Can’t Help Believing. Tickets for this fun-filled evening are just $30 or $50 for VIP tickets which include a reception with B.J. Thomas and are available through local merchants or through Sapphire Valley Resort.  To reserve your seat on the lawn, call the resort at 828-743-7663.
